Catchpoint

Catchpoint (2008)
3′ 44

Bill Brandt’s photograph ‘Halifax 1937’ (otherwise known as ‘Catchpoint’) was taken at the top of a snicket beside Dean Clough carpet mills in Halifax. At that time, employees of Dean Clough were in their thousands, and the Pennine textile trade still buoyant. ‘Catchpoint’ recontextualises this iconic photograph, juxtaposing it with images and sounds from the same location, today. Composed of still images and sounds recorded at the location, the film reflects on rhythms of time and shifting identities of place in Halifax over the last 70 years.
